As an avid traveler and the manager of Ancestry’s travel program, Kyle Betit enjoys taking people on ancestral journeys, whether it is on a group heritage tour or to visit their exact ancestral homes. Kyle is an expert genealogist, lecturer, and author residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Juneau, Alaska, where he started researching his family history at the age of 9, under his grandmother’s tutelage. By age 16 he was working for a genealogy company in Salt Lake City. Kyle began traveling regularly to Europe for genealogy research in 1993. He is one of the co-founders of ProGenealogists. His research specialties include Irish, French, Eastern European, and Catholic research, as well as genetic genealogy.
Kyle has appeared on the “Who Do You Think You Are?” television program with Bill Paxton, Trisha Yearwood, Chris Noth, and Scott Foley, among others, and he has worked on many other episodes, such as those for Matthew Broderick, Rosie O’Donnell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jason Sudeikis, Chelsea Handler, and Cindy Crawford. He was a co-editor of the popular genealogy journal The Irish At Home and Abroad, and he is co-author of A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering Your Irish Ancestors. He lectures widely in North America and Europe.
Erika Manternach is a storyteller at heart, with a diverse background in broadcast journalism, education, and family history. Her pursuits have always centered on writing and sharing engaging stories and she is passionate about helping people preserve memories by conducting effective oral history interviews.
She started her career in TV news, working for more than a decade as a reporter and anchor in South Dakota, Indiana, and Utah. She shifted to teaching journalism and interviewing skills in 2009. She joined AncestryProGenealogists® in 2015 to help create clients' family history narrative offerings. She has since written hundreds of family stories and legacy books, many of which included excerpts from oral history interviews.
Erika holds bachelor’s degrees in communication and music from the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota—her home state—and a Certificate in Copyediting from the University of California-San Diego. She believes well-crafted storytelling can change families—and therefore the whole world—in uplifting and meaningful ways.
Deb is a Senior Research Manager with AncestryProGenealogists® and a member of the International team, calling Devon, England home. She has been with Ancestry for nearly a decade and brings over 20 years of personal and professional research experience to her work. Originally from New Zealand and raised in Australia, Deb's passion for travel has taken her around the world. Before becoming a professional genealogist, she had a career in international shipping, living in the US, Indonesia, Canada, and Norway.
Deb holds an Advanced Diploma in Local History from Oxford University, as well as the Diploma in Family Historical Studies from the Society of Australian Genealogists. She is a full member of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) in England and the Society of Australian Genealogists. Actively involved in the genealogy and heritage community, Deb enjoys researching and sharing a wide range of genealogical topics. Her client research spans Australia, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, Canada, and the US. She has a particular interest in bringing women’s stories to light and loves helping travel clients connect with their ancestral homes and stories.
Cindy Olive is a seasoned Client Relationship Manager at Ancestry, where she has spent the past 11 years connecting clients with expert genealogists and guiding them on their family history journeys. With over 30 years of personal and professional experience in genealogy, she brings both deep knowledge and heartfelt passion to her role as the team’s primary communicator and trusted liaison.
Known for her thoughtful communication and unwavering dedication to clients, she ensures every individual feels heard, supported, and inspired throughout their discovery process. Her love for travel, reading, and time with her grandchildren brings a personal richness to her work, reminding her daily of the value of family stories and shared connections.
