Victoria, Canada
Founded in 1843 by James Douglas of the Hudson’s Bay Company, Victoria was first named Fort Victoria. By 1848, Vancouver Island was made a British colony, and in 1868, Vancouver Island was incorporated with mainland British Columbia.
A city that now blends new with the old, Victoria offers everything from museums to water sports to unmatched dining. It has become extremely popular among boaters. And with its beautiful and rugged shorelines and beaches, who can blame them? The harbors, especially Inner Harbour, are dotted with pleasure crafts, ferries and floatplanes.
