Los Angeles, United States-port

After the Jesuits built a series of missions along the coast of Alta California, the Spaniards established a port in 1781 as a supply stop for their coastal shipping routes. With the arrival of the transcontinental railroad and the discovery of oil, people began to arrive in droves. In 1923 the much-photographed giant letters were erected on the hill, and the golden age of Hollywood was born. The scale of Los Angeles, 90 miles long by 50 miles wide, defies belief.

Discover the iconic landmarks of Los Angeles and the seaside communities nearby, including Griffith Park Observatory, the Venice boardwalk, the storied Queen Mary and affluent Laguna Beach.

Following your arrival at Los Angeles International Airport and after going through the customs and immigration formalities, you will be transferred to the Intercontinental Los Angeles Century City or a similar hotel.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure, and you may do as you please. The designer boutiques on Rodeo Drive aren’t far away, so you might shop or simply relax in the hotel. Meals will be on your own.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will depart on an in-depth tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. You will see highlights such as Mulholland Drive, the Chinese Theatre, Sunset Boulevard, the Walk of Fame, and the Dolby Theatre, where the Academy Awards are held. You will also travel historic Route 66 and pass Rodeo Drive and the Beverly Center.

A one-hour break follows the driving tour, during which you may have lunch on your own. Afterwards, you will proceed to Griffith Park and stop at the observatory. It sits on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood and offers spectacular views of downtown Los Angeles, the Pacific Ocean and Hollywood, including the iconic Hollywood sign.

Besides being a scientific center to observe the cosmos, Griffith Observatory has been a location for numerous movies, including “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Charlie’s Angels,” and two films in “The Terminator” series.

Continuing on toward the ocean, you will then pass through Santa Monica and stop at the boardwalk in Venice Beach. It’s a sight to behold, as you might see mimes, jugglers, broken-glass walkers and fitness buffs pumping iron at Muscle Beach Venice. There are also plenty of shops with unusual merchandise that reflects the odd persona of the Venice boardwalk.

After strolling the boardwalk, you will return to the hotel. The evening will be at your leisure and dinner will be on your own.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will travel south to Long Beach to visit the legendary Queen Mary. Now a hotel and museum, the ship is permanently moored in Long Beach harbor. But she was once the most luxurious and technologically advanced ocean liner of her time, until being retired from service and arriving in Long Beach in 1967. As you explore the ship, the guides will entertain you with stories, facts and insights about the Queen Mary.

Please note: Due to the historic nature of the ship, some areas and tours require the use of stairs and are therefore not wheelchair accessible. However, the guides will do their best to accommodate your needs. The Princess Diana Exhibit and The Ghosts & Legends show are both fully accessible.

In time, you will continue on to Laguna Beach, one of Southern California's premier coastal destinations. A year-round retreat for art lovers, nature enthusiasts and beachgoers, Laguna Beach is blessed with seven miles of spectacular coastline and dozens of lovely coves that attract snorkelers, paddle-boarders and surfers.

During free time, you might have lunch on your own, shop in the boutiques or even stroll the paved path through Heisler Park, taking in the fantastic ocean views. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your leisure. Dinner will be on your own.

Day 4

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the pier and embark the ship.
