Dalian, China-port

Dalian is the second largest city in Liaoning Province, and the largest port in northern China. It is young by Chinese standards, dating from 1898, though smaller settlements had long existed in the area. Like Hong Kong and Shanghai, Dalian's development stemmed from colonial occupation, but in this case by Russia. Under Russian rule Dalian, or Dalny as it was known, became the southern tip of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the main port of the eastern Russian empire.

Dalian Highlights and a Family Visit

Seated Tour

Duration: 4 hours

Tour Code: DLC-001

Discover everyday life in China during a rare in-home visit with a local family and an orientation tour of Dalian.

Depart the pier in Dalian for the drive to People Square, formerly known as Stalin Square, which was built to commemorate the liberation of NE China in 1945 by the Soviet Union's Red Army. Transformed by lush meadows and gentle doves, People Square has become a popular leisure destination for locals and visitors alike.

The highlight of your tour will be a visit with a local family - an opportunity rarely encountered by overseas visitors to China. Your gracious hosts will welcome you into their home and provide you with a first-hand glimpse into their daily life. Through interpreters, you will have a friendly conversation with your hosts regarding points of interest for both parties. From there, you will visit the local farmer's market, where a variety of land and sea products are offered for sale. Some time will be made to browse through the Dalian Friendship Shopping Center for some local specialties.

Following this interesting cultural experience, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to the pier and ship.

Please note: In order to visit with the local family, participants will have to negotiate approximately 15 steps.
