Beach Escape

Light Activity /Walking

Duration: 4 1/4 hours

Tour Code: LKW-004

Spend a carefree day relaxing on Wet Rice Island, an idyllic setting with an inviting beach, clear waters and plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy.

Accompanied by a local guide, you will walk directly from the pier to a nearby jetty and board a small 12-seater boat for a leisurely cruise fifteen minute cruise to Pulau Beras Basah, also known as Wet Rice Island. The name supposedly comes from an incident years ago, when a boat carrying rice capsized because the sailors didn’t ask a sacred pregnant maiden to bless them.

Feel free to ask questions about Langkawi (or the legend of the pregnant maiden) along the way to Wet Rice Island, as the guide knows the history of the archipelago and much about its exotic flora and fauna. Upon reaching the island, you will spend the next three hours at doing whatever you please.

The setting couldn’t be more tropical or the attitude more carefree. Coconut palms shade the long stretch of golden sand. The clear water deepens gradually, so you can easily wade or swim. Don’t be surprised if you even see curious monkeys scurrying about.

During your time here, you can read a favorite book, swim or casually walk along the shore toward the pier. As there’s no schedule to follow, you’re free to enjoy the island at your own pace. Recognized for its tranquility, Wet Rice Island presents an ideal environment to relax. Following your time here, you will retrace your route by boat and return to the pier.

Please note: Walking on this tour is mainly at the guests’ discretion; however the walk from the pier to the jetty is approximately 380 yards and the surfaces at the beach are primarily natural and uneven. Participants should be able to enter and exit the boat with limited assistance. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Restrooms and changing facilities are available at the beach. Swim wear; a change of clothes; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a towel from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. There may be independent suppliers on the beach that offer water sports for a fee. These activities are provided by third parties not affiliated with the cruise line’s operator and they are usually non-licensed and uninsured. Those who utilize these services or participate in any water activities, do so at their own risk and responsibility.
