  • Chinese Acrobatic Show Event

This exclusive event is included for all guests, with the compliments of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Witness the incredible skills and agility of a truly unique group of artists during this unforgettable demonstration of Chinese acrobatics.

Ancient stone carvings, earthen pottery and early written works trace the ancestry of today's spectacular acts to an era long since vanished. Confucius' father was an acrobat and strongman of unrivaled strength who, it is claimed, lifted 1,000 pound city gates to let an army storm through.

It was during the Han Dynasty, more than two thousand years ago, that China saw its first acrobats, magicians and jugglers. Acrobats with incredible balance and amazing displays of strength sprang from the annual village harvest celebrations. Chinese farmers and village craftsmen, with relatively little to do over the long winter, decided to spend their time improving their social position by becoming acrobats. They practiced the art form with just about anything they could find around the house and farm, using cups, saucers, tables, chairs, plates and even their own bodies to form human walls and pyramids.

Depart the pier for the drive to the Portman Theater to see a spectacular performance of incredible balance and amazing displays of strength by highly-skilled and trained Chinese acrobats. Building on the traditional performances, today's artists have added new techniques and spectacular stunts designed to thrill and amaze audiences all around the globe.

Following the show, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to the pier and ship.

Please note: There are steps at the theater to access your seats. An alternative venue will be used for acrobatic show if Shanghai Center theatre is not available
