Warnemünde is a sea resort and district of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, situated at the Baltic Sea in the Northeast of Germany at the estuary of the river Warnow. Being a center of maritime traffic, the district of Warnemünde comprises numerous navigational aids, the oldest of which is the lighthouse located near the beach promenade. The lighthouse, which is currently still in use, was built in 1897. Warnemunde is also our gateway to nearby Berlin.

  • Berlin Highlights and Exclusive Organ Concert

See many of Berlin’s most revered architectural landmarks, including the domed Baroque-style cathedral, where you will enjoy an organ concert.

After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a lengthy but immensely scenic drive through northern Germany and on to Berlin. As you travel through the beautiful capital city, you will pass landmarks such as the soaring Victory Column that commemorates Prussia’s victory over France in 1871. The column once stood in front of the Reichstag, the domed Neo-Renaissance building where the lower house of Germany’s legislature meets.

Later, you will pass the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. It was here in 1987 that President Ronald Reagan famously urged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall”—referring to the Berlin Wall. You will also view symbolic sections of the remaining wall and Bebelplatz, the square where 20,000 blacklisted books were burned in 1933.

In time, you will arrive at the Berlin Cathedral, a magnificent Baroque building consecrated in 1905. Although severely damaged in World War II, it has been restored to its original grandeur, as has the famed Wilhelm Sauer-built pipe organ inside. After taking a seat in the cathedral’s Emperor’s Balcony, you will enjoy a concert that will demonstrate organ’s glorious sound.

To further immerse yourself in classical music, you will then tour the Konzerhaus, which is home to Berlin’s symphony orchestra. Free time for lunch follows, as well as a photo stop at the Philharmonic Hall before returning to Warnemunde.

  • The Ultimate Berlin Experience

From the port, Berlin lies to the southeast, a drive that is exceptionally scenic. Upon arriving in Germany's capital city, you will see one of its most poignant symbols, the restored Brandenburg Gate, which was once part of the Berlin Wall. Another icon is the Unter den Linden, the fashionable avenue of aristocratic old Berlin, which extends from the Brandenburg Gate to Alexanderplatz, once the heart of socialist East Germany. Continuing on, you will stop at the East Side Gallery to contemplate a section of the Berlin Wall on which artists, both famous and obscure, were encouraged to express themselves in paint. Although Germany has been reunified since 1990, many of the most noteworthy sites are reminders of its earlier divisiveness and war years. For instance, there is Checkpoint Charlie, a Cold War crossing point between East and West Berlin, the Tempelhof Airlift Memorial, and the Allied Museum, where the Allied presence in post-war Berlin comes alive. Following free time for lunch on your own, you will see attractions such as the Reichstag, which once again houses Germany's parliament, and the new Memorial for the Victims of War and Dictatorship.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 3 hours of travel on the coach to Berlin. There is little walking, plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. There are steps to be taken in and out of the coach. The order of sites visited may vary. Guide service only in Berlin; an official escort will be in the coach and will provide some information. After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a picturesque drive to Putnitz, where you will visit a technical museum housed in a former air force base. The exhibitions are contained in three hangars, each one dedicated to type of Soviet and Eastern Bloc vehicles.
