  • Vestmanna Sea Cliffs

Experience the seaside splendor of the Faroes during this unique boat ride to the bird cliffs of Vestmanna.

Depart the pier for the drive to the village of Vestmanna, where you will embark your tour boat and sail out to the bird cliffs. You will then sail along the cliff wall into a narrow gorge, where sheer rock walls on both sides rise vertically toward the sky and sheep can be seen grazing on the very top of the cliffs.

As the boat slowly enters one of the many grottos, daylight will momentarily disappear. Darkness and the sound of dripping water will surround you, and suddenly, you will emerge on the other side. The boat will make a brief stop for you to take in spectacular vistas and photo opportunities.

Following your boat trip, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier in Tórshavn Harbor. En route, a brief stop will be made at a viewpoint overlooking the capital.

  • Tórshavn - the Capital

It began as a Viking Thing, followed by a market, then became a thriving town, and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Tórshavn today blends the historical and picturesque with all the features of a modern city: quality restaurants and hotels, conference facilities, interesting museums, discotheques, cinema, live theater, exhibitions, sports facilities, parks, and, of course, excellent shopping.

Your tour will visit Tinganes, the historic part of Tórshavn. You will make a short stop at Skansin to explore the old fort before driving up to the beautiful Nordic House cultural center. From there, drive through the modern sections of the city and, before heading back to the harbor, stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the capital.

  • Panoramic Torshavn & Leynar

Board a coach at the pier for a panoramic drive across historic Tinganes, a rocky peninsula in Tórshavn harbor where the ancient Vikings met. Travel up to the scenic, ridge-top road that runs along the southern part of Streymoy Island, pausing above Tórshavn to take photos from the viewpoint overlooking the colorful capital city. In the green pastures above Tórshavn, be on the lookout for stone cairns, which marked the footpaths between villages in ancient times.

Enjoy another photo stop above Nordradalur valley, where on clear days a dramatic view of the island of Koltur stands gloriously before you. Farther north, views of Kaldbak and Kollafjørdur Fjords open below. Winding down into a valley, you will pass a charming mountain lake and pause to admire the hand-hewn stone salmon ladders leading to Lake Leynar. Arriving in Leynar, you will either watch the local woodcarver work, or enjoy a walk on Leynar Beach. The journey back to Tórshavn is via a 1½-mile-long tunnel and then along a fjord at sea level.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of moderate walking that includes some uneven surfaces, and a small incline to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. • Kirkjubour & Torshavn Walk

Your motor coach departs the harbor and ascends into emerald-green sheep country in the hills above Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroes. En route to Kirkjubour, you'll have an excellent view to the west of the islands of Koltur, Hestur, Sandoy, and Vágar.

During the Middle Ages, Kirkjubøur was the ecclesiastical and cultural centre of the Faroes. Here was the Bishop's residence until the Reformation, when the Faroese diocese was abolished. The imposing ruin of Saint Magnus Cathedral still dominates the town. Construction of the Cathedral is thought to have begun in the late-thirteenth century, as the style of the building is from the best period of Gothic architecture, common to West Norwegian church building of that time. Tradition has it that it was never finished; yet recent research has revealed that it was probably roofed at one time.

You will also visit the public areas of the historic Roykstova Farmhouse Museum, one of the oldest wooden buildings in Europe. Roykstova has been the home of the farmers in Kirkjubøur for centuries and has been occupied by the same Faroese family for 17 generations. Covered with a traditional turf roof, it is a large building made of logs, which are said to have come drifting all the way from Norway some 700 years ago. The farmhouse interior reflects the lifestyle of a large Faroese farm.

En route back to the ship, you'll stop in Tinganes for a walk about the old town. After a walk about the Old Town area, you'll rejoin your motor coach and return to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate walking that includes some uneven surfaces, some steps, and a small incline to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. It is recommended that guests dress in warm, layered clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes. Guests should also bring raingear in case of inclement weather. The order of the sights viewed or visited may vary.

  • Saksun & Kollafjordur

Board your motor coach at the harbor and follow the coastal road, taking in delightful vistas of the vibrant sea and rich green islands. The layers of volcanic ash and lava that are the hallmark of the Faeroes are most striking as you venture on toward the village of Kollafjördur. Its superbly preserved church dates from 1837 and is replete with grass-roof and black-tarred sides.

Venturing on from Kollafjördur, enter a broad valley and follow a meandering stream deep into the mountains to Saksun, nestled at the brink of a round sea pool surrounded by soaring, emerald-green mountains. One of the most famous historic landmarks in the Faeroe Islands, the ancient farmstead in the village of Saksun dates from the Middle Ages. Traverse the centuries as you explore the farmhouse rooms. Outside, the vistas are spellbinding.

Leaving this magical valley, journey back to Tórshavn along the mountain road, enjoying panoramic glimpses of mountain, sea and fjord. Pause for a moment to capture a photo of the ship and the colorful capital spread below you before returning to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of moderate walking that includes some uneven surfaces, some steps, and a small incline to negotiate.

  • The Island of Vagar

Depart from Streymoy Island via Kaldbakfjord and the Kollafjørdur Valley, and then drive through an underwater tunnel to Vagar Island. You will appreciate Vagar's ever-changing scenery while exploring its villages. Your guide will tell you about the island, its history and about life here today.

Drive through the village of Sandavágur, where you'll visit the Midvágur church, and pass the largest lake in the Faroe Islands before reaching Vatnsoyrar. In Bøur, you'll discover a little village with old and new houses with green-sod roofs and a charming tar-blackened church.

From there, take in the spectacular view of Tindholmur and Mykines Islands beyond. You'll leave Bour through the tunnel to Gasadalur, Vagar's westernmost village, and then return to Tórshavn via a mountain road that presents extraordinary panoramic views of the fjords and capital city.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of moderate walking that includes some uneven surfaces, and small hills to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. • Rib Safari

Experience the Faroe Islands in a specially built, high-speed RIB rigid inflatable boat. Following the safety briefing, you'll put on a life vest and depart the harbor of Tórshavn for an exhilarating sea adventure in the nearby fjords.

If the weather permits, your skipper will zip into some of the grottoes and between the freestanding cliffs, which offer the best possible view of any wildlife. The boat accommodates just 12 passengers and reaches speeds up to 50 knots, offering quite an adventure for nature-lovers.

Your guided hike begins at this point and heads up the mountain towards the sill. Reaching the top, you will have some excellent views of the rock formation and the island of Vágar. After a brief pause by the small lakes, you'll head back down the mountain and rejoin your waiting coach.

Returning to Tórshavn via the mountain road, you'll make a final stop at the viewpoint that overlooks the capital.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate hiking that includes uneven surfaces, natural terrain and incline to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability.
