Glories of Antiquity

Ports and Excursions of Mediterranean

Dubrovnik, Croatia-port

Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik was founded in the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum (today’s Cavtat). It is known worldwide for its unique marble-paved squares, tall houses, steep-cobbled streets and fountains. The city walls, once used to as protection against its enemies, now keep motorists at bay in this picturesque town. UNESCO named the Old City a World Heritage Site, and Dubrovnik’s beautiful historic sites have been restored to their former glory.

Most Active or Strenuous

Duration: 4 1/2 hours

Tour Code: DBV-005

Board the coach at the port in Dubrovnik and continue along the Adriatic Road through the scenic and picturesque Dubrovnik countryside toward the Cilipi Village

From Cilipi Village, you will be met by professional staff that will give you a tour introduction. After approximately 15 minutes of preparation, your biking adventure will begin. This ride through the countryside is very scenic, passing through vineyards and along the Ljuta River. En route, you will stop to visit an old mill. Your host here will introduce you to his 15th century mill, as well as the traditional ways of flour production.

Continuing your bike tour, you will also visit a beautiful place hidden in the Konavle Valley called Cadmos Village. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with dry figs, cheese, Dalmatian prosciutto, fresh natural squeezed juice, coffee and cake. Following your snack, you will make your way to the wine tasting facility of Vodopic.

On the way you will view the magnificent mountain Snjeznica, and the fortress of Soko, the largest and most important fortress from the times of the Dubrovnik Republic. The Vodopic wine tasting facility is located in Ljuta Village, on a knoll surrounded by cypress and vineyards. After your wine tasting, you will return to Dubrovnik.

Please note: You will cover approximately 5 miles by bicycle. The total time on the bicycle is approximately 1 1/2 hours, which includes frequent stops. Participants should be comfortable riding a bike and be physically fit, as some of the terrain is very bumpy.
