Description

Behold an ancient Greco-Roman city and explore an enormous cave on this captivating tour. Settle in for an approximately one-hour drive to age-old Side, a stunning seaside village where Marc Antony and Cleopatra’s romance flourished, and stroll broad, colonnaded streets lined with ancient buildings to a central forum where pirates once sold their cargo. Admire the 2nd-century, 15,000-person theater, once home to legendary gladiatorial bouts but converted into a massive open-air church in the 5th century. You’ll find remains of three temples on the theater’s fringes, one dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine, and the others honoring Apollo and Artemis. Survey a rich collection of artifacts unearthed during Side’s excavation at the Archaeological Museum, located in old baths from the Roman period. You’ll travel to the western side of the peninsula and reach the Damlatas Cave, an enormous chasm covered with stalactites and stalagmites that continue to grow. Learn that due to its consistent high temperatures and humidity, the cave is known as a magical cure for certain respiratory ailments, such as asthma. You’ll marvel at Turkey’s classical and subterranean wonders on this arresting excursion.
