Duration: 7 hours
Tour Code: POF-1GT
Accompanied by your Chef Instructor from the Culinary Arts Kitchen, you'll enjoy a short boat ride along the coastline to Rappalo. Arriving here, you'll be greeted by Guido, a local culinary expert for tastings of the famous Ligurian olive oil and a guided stroll through the local farmers market. Later, travel to Recco for an unforgettable pasta making class with a true master followed by a lunch of local specialties and wines.
Start your tour with your Chef Instructor at the Culinary Arts Kitchen and learn why Liguria is considered one of the stars of Italian cuisine. Here, you’re in the land of pesto and special attention is paid to the basil of Genoa. The olives of Liguria and the fresh, handmade and delicate pasta of the region also take center stage. The tour is limited to eighteen guests, so you’ll have a chance to interact with your knowledgeable Chef Instructor and enjoy the intimacy of your group.
With your Chef Instructor and local guide, you’ll tender into the quaint village of Portofino and transfer on the ferry to the picturesque seaside town of Rapallo. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by our local culinary expert, Guido, at his famous culinary gourmet shop, Parla Come Mangi. There, you will taste extra virgin olive oils and other treats very specific to Liguria. You will also have free time to stroll through the shop, which is overflowing with pastas, cured meats, artisanal cheeses and wines. You’ll be able to purchase Ligurian olive oils to reproduce the perfect Ligurian pesto at home.
Accompanied by Guido, your Chef Instructor and a local guide, you’ll next stroll through the small farmers market to see how the locals shop and what’s in season. Smell the fragrant Genovese basil and learn why it is considered the perfect basil for pesto.
After a short walk through the colorful and charming streets of Rapallo, you’ll re-board your coach for a short drive to the delightful town of Recco and arrive at O Vittorio, a third generation family restaurant. Greeted by the owners and a master pasta Chef, you’ll settle into a private area for a demonstration of several Ligurian specialties. Enjoy fritters with a local sparkling wine while you watch the Chef (and perhaps join in) making fresh pasta, pesto and the regional specialty for which O Vittorio is famous, Focaccia. Not the bread of other regions, this is a pasta dish is not to be missed if you want to truly experience Liguria.
At the conclusion of the demonstration, you’ll feel like family and sit for a typical lunch of pasta, Ligurian seafood and local wines. After lunch, you can board the tender to the ship or enjoy some free time in the charming town of Portofino.
